Aromas at Meijer Gardens

Shari Baby Orchid

I became aware of this plant after a volunteer at the gardens introduced our group to it. We found it in the Victorian Room on top of a wooden desk. This smell was extremely strong and smelled like sweet chocolate. It was not a hot or cold type of smell, but rather one that made your mouth water. It reminded me of fresh cocoa that was natural and unprocessed. There was also a sweet component to it that reminded me of a flowery smelling perfume. Overall, I would describe the smell as that of a chocolate covered cherry. The smell made me extremely hungry and wanted something chocolate that instant! After leaving the room and later returning, the orchid smelled just as strong as it had before. This orchid's delicious aroma directly paralleled its wonderful, visual beauty.
