Aromas at Meijer Gardens

Shooting Star

When I entered the Tropical Room I came across the Shooting Star plant. This plant is native to tropic and subtropic regions. It first caught my eye because of how unusual it looked. The stems of the flowers really looked like shooting stars! This plant had a little stronger smell than my first two plants. I would classify this aroma as medium strength. It did not have a sweet smell like I expected it to. I would best compare this aroma to that of grass. It reminded me of going outside and smelling the fresh-cut grass after my dad has mowed the lawn. It had a "flat" sort of smell which is not particularly pleasant. It did not smell like your typical, delicate flower and the aroma did not seem to match its fantastic name! The smell did not seem to persist as I continued on through the tropical room. In fact, after returning from outdoors the aroma seemed to be far weaker during the "second sniff". I was surprised at how much more difficult it was for me to smell this flower after having smelled other plants and "cleansing my palate" outdoors.
